Advanced iOS Controls

This article explains how to use advanced iOS control features within webmate, including keyboard usage, pointer mode, extra shortcut configuration, and accessibility-based settings.

The keyboard always works on enabled devices, regardless of pointer mode.

Using VoiceOver

VoiceOver Modifier Keys: Hold down modifier keys (e.g. Ctrl + Alt/Option) to trigger the VoiceOver shortcut.

You can set the modifier to be the Caps Lock key or the Control and Option keys pressed at the same time.
To change the modifier keys go to
Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Typing > Modifier Keys.
To control voiceover press the modifier keys and the action key (Arrow Left / Arrow Right / Tab). This sets on the voiceover setting on the phone.

Activating Pointer Mode

1. Open the workbench and go to the top left → Advanced Gesture Input.
2. Enable Pointer Capture: this captures your mouse inside the device as a pointer device.
3. To exit pointer capture, press Esc. This allows direct pointer interaction as if using an external pointing device with iOS.

Configuring Extra Shortcuts

1. Open Settings → Accessibility on the device.
2. Select AssistiveTouch.
3. Go to Devices and choose the connected device.
4. From here, you can map and configure buttons:
   • Left button
   • Right button
   • Middle button This enables custom hardware-like input for testing and can be set to have the gestures, pinch and rotate.

Adjusting Pointer Speed

• In Accessibility menu, you can configure Pointer Speed.
• This setting adjusts how fast the pointer moves across the screen.

With these advanced features, you can simulate real-world accessibility and input scenarios, ensuring a more complete iOS testing experience.
